Indian Premier League was started by BCCI and managed by itself. BCCI created a governing council which handles everything related to the Indian Premier League. 

The Supreme Court of India appointed lodha committee to recommend for Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) and Indian Premier League (IPL).

When Indian Premier League was started in 2008, the teams of the IPL was representing 8 different cities of India. In order to decide the owner of the team, the team were put up on auction with a total base price of  around $400 million. After the auction was over BCCI anounced the highest bidders and the owner of each IPL teams. The teams were based on 8 cities of India named Banglore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Banglore, Delhi, Rajasthan and Mumbai.

1.  Mumbai Indians (Reliance Industries)




The owner of the IPL team Mumbai Indians is Reliance Industries. Reliance Industries is an Indian multinational conglomerate company. It's headquarter is in Mumbai, Maharshtra,India. The franchise was bought for a bid of  $111.9 million and it is the highest bid for a franchise in Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians is one of the Subsidiary of Reliance Industries and Chairman and MD of the company is Mukesh Ambani. The Reliance Industries was Co-founded by Dhirubhai Ambani and Champaklal Damani in 1960's. The Company is ranked 96th on the Fortune Global 500. The products of the Reliance industries are: 

Petroleum, Natural gas, Petrochemicals, Textiles, Retail, Telecommunications, Media,Television, Entertainment, Music, Banking, Software.



2.  Chennai Super Kings (India Cements)




The IPL team Chennai Super Kings is owned by India Cement. The India Cements is a cement manufacturing company headed by former International Cricket Council Chairman N. Srinivasan. The company was founded by  S. N. N. Sankaralinga Iyer in 1946 in Tamil Nadu. The India Cement was the owner of the team Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2014. The ex-chairman of International Cricket Council N. Srinivasan was illegally the owner of Chennai Super Kings as he was the vice chairman and managing director of Indian Cements. After this controversial act in 2014 the team was transferred to a completely separate body named Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd after. The Chennai Franchise was bought by India Cement for a bid of $91 million.



3.  Royal Challengers Banglore (United Spirits)




The Royal Challengers Bangalore is owned by United Spirits Limited (USL). United Spirits is an Indian Liquor company and second largest liquor company in the world by volume. It was founded by Angus McDowell in 1826 when British was ruling India. It's headquarter is at UB Tower Banglore, Karnataka, India. The chairman of the company is Mahendra Kumar Sharma and Anand Kripalu is the CEO and MD of the company. Tue RCB is based on Banglore and the United Spirits bought the Bangalore franchisee for a bid of $ 111.6 million.



4.  Kolkata Knight Riders (Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group)




Kolkata Knight Riders is owned by two different body Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group of Companies. 

Red Chillies Entertainment Formerly called Dreamz Unlimited in 1999. It was transferred from Dreamz Unlimited to Red Chillies Entertainment. It is an Indian film vfx and CGI production and distribution company founded by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan in 2003. Shahrukh Khan is the co-owner of the franchisee.

Mehta Group Of Companies is a conglomerate company established 22 years ago in 1998. The chairman of the company is Jay Mehta. The company is based on mumbai, india and it's subsidiary is in the United States, Canada, Kenya and Uganda. The company's business includes investments in sugar, cement, electrical cables, management, insurance etc. The Kolkata franchise was bought in the partnership of Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group of Companies for a price of $75.09 million.



5.  Sunrisers Hyderabad (Sun TV Network)




Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Sun TV Network. Sun TV Network is an indian mass media company. It's headquarter is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is the part of Sun Group and is one of the largest TV Network in Asia. It was established by Kalanithi Maran 27 years ago on 14 April,1993. It owns number of TV channels as well as Radio stations in multiple languages. In 2013 IPL Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced Deccan chargers, Sun Group owned the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2012. The Franchisee was bought by Sun Group for a price of $12 million. 



6.  Rajasthan Royals (Manoj Badale)




The team of IPL Rajasthan Royals is co-owned by Manoj Badale. Manaoj Badale is the co-founder and managing partner of Blenheim Chalcot and the chairman of the British Asian Trust (BAT). He was born on 31 December 1967 in Dhule, Maharashtra. He partenered and co-founded number of groups and companies and sold them. In 2008, he along with some investers Lachlan Murdoch, Illyria Pty Ltd and Suresh Chellaram acquired the jaipur based team Rajasthan Royals. The Franchisee was bought for a price of $67 million.



7.  Kings XI Punjab (Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul)




The IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab is Co-Owned by multiple Co-Owners. Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul are the Co-Owners of the Kings XI Punjab.

Mohit Burman is an indian businessman born on 20 july 1968. He is the director of Dabur India Ltd and Chairman of Aviva life insurance Company India Ltd. He is also one of the Co-Owner of the IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

Ness Wadia is a British-Indian businessman born on 30 May 1971 and a part of Wadia family. He is the great-grandson of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He is the managing director of Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation.

Preity Zinta is a bollywood actress and an entrepreneur. She was born on 31st January,1975. She debuted in hindi cinema in 1998 with a movie named "Dil Se". She won best debutant actress Filmfare award for her debut film.

Karan Paul was born on 3 november,1969. He is the chairman of the Apeejay Surrendra Group which is India's one of the oldest privately owned family businesses. It was established in 1910 in jalandhar,Punjab. It's family business includes tea, hospitality, shipping, retail, real estate, and other sectors. The group has around 43,000 employees.



8.  Delhi Capitals (GMR Group and JSW Group)




Delhi Capitals is owned by two Groups, GMR Groups and JSW Groups. 

GMR Groups is an infrastructural company founded 42 years ago in 1978 and it was founded by mallikarjun Rao. It's headquarter is in New Delhi. This company has International presence and completed projects in several countries like Nepal, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines and Greece.

JSW Groups is a private indian conglomerate businesses company. It is led by Sajjan Jindal and part of the Jindal Group. Formerly it was known as Jindal South West later it was shortened as JSW to promote it as a brand. The JSW businesses include Steel, Energy, Minerals, Infrastructure and Cement. This group of company serve worldwide.
